Description of a piece

“The Nereides” fruit bowl

“The Nereides” is a sculptural fruit bowl inspired by the delicate movement of seaweed underwater. Handcrafted from solid brass using the lost-wax technique, each tiny seaweed leaf is individually shaped and welded together, creating a dynamic and flowing structure. The interplay of metal and porcelain evokes the contrast between strength and fragility, permanence and ephemerality - qualities inherent in marine ecosystems and the materials.

In ancient Greek mythology, the Nereides were graceful sea nymphs known for guiding and protecting sailors. They embodied the ocean’s dual nature - gentle and powerful, mysterious yet nurturing. This fruit bowl is envisioned as a gift from the Nereides themselves - an offering from the ocean's depths to those who navigate the ever-shifting tides of life.
